About The Shipping Lounge
Are you open?
Yes. The Shipping Lounge opened to the public on July 15, 2026 and is open for walk-in business six days a week: Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. We are closed Sunday.
Where are you located?
631-2 Promenade Place, Columbia, SC 29229, in the Village at Sandhill. Call or text us at (839) 216-5100.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Everything we do — shipping, printing, faxing, notary, mailbox service — is available to walk-ins during open hours. You can also start most of it from your phone in our customer portal.
What is the customer portal?
It is your account with us, on your phone at theshiplounge.com/portal. You can see photos of packages and mail that have arrived, view your receipts, send us documents, fax from your phone, and tell us you are on your way to pick up. It is free with any plan and takes about a minute to set up.
Shipping and drop-off
Which carriers can I ship with?
UPS, FedEx and USPS. We are a UPS Authorized Shipping Outlet and a FedEx Authorized ShipCenter, so you can ship all three from one counter instead of driving to three places.
Can I drop off a package that already has a label?
Yes. Bring in any prepaid UPS, FedEx or USPS package and we will accept it and get it on the truck. If you need the label printed, email it to label@shippinglounge.com and we will have it ready.
Do you pack things for me?
Yes. Bring the item and we will box it, cushion it and ship it. We quote you a price or an estimate before we start, and we collect a deposit on larger jobs. The final price can come in a little higher or lower once we see the item.
Can you ship to Guam, Puerto Rico or a military address?
Yes. For Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Saipan, American Samoa and APO/FPO addresses we quote USPS, because USPS treats those as domestic while UPS and FedEx charge international export rates. We have shipped to U.S. territories and can walk you through it.
Mailboxes and package receiving
What are your plans and what do they cost?
- Ship It Here — $9.99 per package, one time. No monthly commitment. Register once, send a package here, pick it up.
- Lounge Receive Personal — $19.99 a month. Packages only, up to 20 a month.
- Lounge Receive Business — $29.99 a month. Packages only, for businesses that are not open when the driver comes.
- Lounge Plus — $35.99 a month. A real mailbox: mail and packages, your own street address.
- Lounge Business — $59.99 a month. A commercial street address for your business.
- ShieldMail — $35.99 a month. Address privacy for South Carolina law enforcement, notarization included.
Is this a P.O. Box?
No. A P.O. Box is a USPS box number. We give you a real street address — 631-2 Promenade Place, Columbia, SC 29229, with your own unit number — which means UPS, FedEx, DHL and Amazon will all deliver to it. Many banks, the DMV and business registrations accept a street address where they will not accept a P.O. Box.
Why can't a packages-only plan receive U.S. Mail?
Because U.S. Mail delivered to a mail center requires USPS Form 1583 on file, which makes you a full CMRA mailbox customer. The packages-only plans (Ship It Here, Lounge Receive Personal, Lounge Receive Business) are for private carriers — UPS, FedEx, DHL and Amazon — and carry a packages-only disclosure instead of a Form 1583. If USPS mail shows up for a packages-only customer, we will tell you and offer to upgrade you to a mailbox plan so we can release it; otherwise it goes back to sender.
Which plans need USPS Form 1583?
The three full mailbox plans: Lounge Plus, Lounge Business and ShieldMail. You complete it right in the app. Ship It Here and the Lounge Receive plans do not need one.
Why do I get a unit number?
So your package is unmistakably yours. Your address is 631-2 Promenade Place #[your number], Columbia, SC 29229. Without a number, packages arrive with nothing to match them to and they are easy to lose track of.
Can someone else pick up my package or mail?
Yes, if you have authorized them in advance and they bring photo ID. For full mailbox plans, everyone who receives mail at the box must be listed on your USPS Form 1583. Call us at (839) 216-5100 to add someone.
How do I know something arrived?
We photograph it. Every package and every piece of mail shows up in your portal with a picture, so you can see what came before you drive over. When you are on your way, tap the red car button in the portal and we will have it at the counter.
Do you get a virtual mailbox too?
Yes — it comes with your physical mailbox rather than being sold separately. Mailbox customers get both: the street address here and the digital view of their mail on their phone.
Is there a limit on how many packages I can receive?
Lounge Receive Personal covers up to 20 packages a month. Ship It Here is priced per package at $9.99. If you are sending us more than two one-time packages, the $19.99 monthly plan is the better deal and we will tell you so.
Your mail, and what we do with it
What can I tell you to do with a piece of mail?
Every item that is not a package gets an instruction from you in the portal:
- Hold — keep it for pickup.
- Shred — free on your own mail.
- Open & Scan — $5. We open the envelope and scan the whole document.
- Forward — actual postage plus $3 handling.
Do you open my mail?
No, not unless you tell us to. By default we photograph the front of the envelope only. Opening and scanning the contents is a separate $5 instruction and requires your written authorization for that item.
What happens if I don't pick up my mail?
Pick up by Thursday. Anything still here on Friday gets forwarded to you. Friday forwarding covers letters and flats only — never packages. Forwarding a package is quoted separately: we weigh it, send you the actual postage cost, and it ships once you approve it in the portal.
How do I pay for forwarding postage?
Mailbox plans carry a $25 monthly Lounge credit that covers forwarding postage and any of the mail-handling fees. It refills back up to $25 and does not roll over. If a month runs heavy, we tell you rather than quietly charging you again.
Fax
What does a fax cost?
$5 for the first page and $1 for each additional page, in either direction. The cover sheet is free. Everyone pays the same price — there is no membership tier for faxing and no account required to send one from the counter.
How do I send a fax?
Two ways. Walk in and hand it to us, or send it from your phone: open your portal, tap Fax & Print, take a photo of each page or upload a PDF, enter the recipient's name and fax number, and pay. You see your exact total before you pay. You can also email the file to fax@shippinglounge.com with your name, the recipient's name and their fax number, and we will count the pages and quote you.
Can I receive a fax here?
Yes. Have the sender fax it to (839) 216-5100 and ask them to write on the cover sheet: ATTENTION, your first and last name, your cell number and your email address. That is how we know whose it is. We will let you know it arrived, and receiving costs the same $5 first page and $1 each additional page.
Do I need a fax machine or a fax line?
No. That is the point of the service. You use your phone or you hand us the paper.
Printing
What does printing cost?
$0.85 per page black and white, $0.95 per page full color, on letter size (8.5 x 11). The price is the same whether you upload it or bring it in — one rate, both ways.
Can I upload a document instead of coming in?
Yes. Upload it online, pay at upload, and choose store pickup or shipping. It will be waiting for you at the counter. Your confirmation and pickup notice land in your portal.
What else do you print?
Business cards, flyers, postcards, booklets, banners, yard signs and more through our print service. Send us your artwork or tell us what you need and we will quote it. Paper upgrades like cardstock and finishing options like stapling, hole punch and binding are priced on top.
Notary
What does a notary cost?
$20 for one notarial act. That is the $5 South Carolina statutory maximum for the notarial act itself, plus a $15 Lounge service fee for the convenience of walking in without an appointment. You get the fee disclosure in writing before we begin, so you know the price up front.
Do I need an appointment for a notary?
No. There is a licensed notary on staff. Walk in during open hours and you are usually out in about 15 minutes. You can also book a time in advance if you prefer.
What do I need to bring?
Your unsigned document and a government-issued photo ID. Do not sign it beforehand — the signature has to happen in front of the notary.
Workspace
Can I work from The Shipping Lounge?
Yes. We have coworking tables at $35 for a day, which includes Wi-Fi, electricity, water and restroom access. It is a calm, professional place to get a few hours of work done.
Shredding
Do you shred documents?
Yes. Shredding is free for mailbox customers on their own mail — it keeps your box empty and it is one of the reasons to have a mailbox here. For walk-in shredding, bring your documents in and we weigh them: $2 per pound.
